I specialize in forest community ecology and the conservation of relict, endangered, and rare plant species. I have a long-standing interest in forest dynamics and the interactions among plant species and their environments. My research focuses particularly on the mechanisms underlying the structure, dynamics, and sustainable development of forests in southwestern and south-central China. This specialization has given me a deep understanding of forest vegetation, biodiversity, ecosystems, and environmental sustainability in this geographical region. Additionally, I focus on the biogeography and macroecology of plant diversity and vegetation in the context of climate change.

In the field of ecology, interdisciplinary learning and personal experience are key components of my teaching. I have taught both in the classroom and in the field to effectively convey the principles of forest ecology. My teaching experience includes laboratory and field-based plant ecology courses, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning. By adapting to various classroom and field situations and incorporating student feedback, I strive to create a positive learning environment that inspires passion for research in ecology and conservation.

My research projects are based on the premise that rapid and unsustainable land development is incompatible with maintaining the world’s highest levels of biological diversity. Understanding how natural succession operates to sustain healthy plant communities is essential for forest preservation. Once these communities are lost, they cannot be recovered. Our role in such cases involves facilitation and education. More broadly, I hope our research results will influence development decisions and ultimately benefit the global environment.
